How to Set up Call Tracking for AdWords
To set up call tracking for AdWords, you’ll need to set up the Call Extension Tab within your Google AdWords account.
To do this, click on Campaigns. Click on the Campaign or the Ad Group where you want to add call tracking. Click on Ad extensions.
Once you have clicked on Ad extensions you need to change the view:
Then, you’ll need to click on Call extensions to set up a toll free number in Google AdWords:
Now, click on + Extension. Select your Campaign and press done.
A box will appear where you can choose your campaign that you want to add the call extension.
After clicking done, a box will appear with the words + New phone number:
Here you can change your settings for your phone number. Google AdWords provides forwarding numbers, which are just numbers that will forward to your business line. These numbers are free, though you will be charged your pay-per-click cost when people click on the ad or click on the number from a mobile device.
Once you have entered your information, press save.
GOOGLE FORWARDING NUMBER
A Google Forwarding number is a free Google number that appears on your website after someone clicks on your ad. This phone number replaces your business phone number for people who clicked on the ad. This number might not be the same for every user, but the calls will be tracked the same.
BE SURE TO SET UP CALL CONVERSION TRACKING
Without adding a call conversion tag to your site, you won’t be able to properly track call conversions. It’s pretty simple to set up. Basically, you’ll need to sign into your AdWords account, label the conversions you want to track, and add a snippet of code to your website. Depending on how technical you are, you may be able to add this code yourself. You might need to find a developer to help you out or contact AdWords directly.
Google wants to make sure phone numbers are associated with your business and requires verification.
Phone numbers that haven’t been approved will be listed as “Unverified” or “Unverified phone” in the Ad extensions tab.
To get phone numbers verified, you’ll need to take one of these three steps.
1. Have the phone number being used in the extension listed in text on your website.
2. Link your Webmaster Tools and AdWords accounts.
3. Add your AdWords conversion code snippet to the landing page in your ad.
If your phone numbers aren’t verified, your ads will be disapproved. This went into effect in June 2015.
